JOB SUMMARY

The Process Engineer at UBE C1 Chemicals America is a key technical leader responsible for the safe, efficient and compliant operation of chemical manufacturing processes. This role focuses on continuous improvement, process optimization and PSM (Process Safety Management) participation. The ideal candidate will have a minimum of 7 years of experience in chemical or petrochemical manufacturing and a proven track record of owning process operations, driving performance improvements and collaborating across functions to ensure operations remain within control limits.

This role partners closely with Operations, Maintenance, Environmental and Engineering teams to improve yields, reduce energy consumption, minimize waste, ensure regulatory compliance and support strategic capital planning.

Requirements

JOB RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Own assigned process units, ensuring operations remain within safe and optimal control limits.
  • Coach, train and communicate process expectations to operators, supervisors and cross-functional teams.
  • Lead troubleshooting of process upsets and equipment issues, using root cause analysis and real-time data.
  • Drive continuous improvement initiatives to enhance safety, throughout, efficiency and product quality.
  • Champion and participate in PSM elements, including Process Hazard Analyses (PHAs), Management of Change (MOC) and Pre-Startup Safety Reviews (PSSRs).
  • Conduct plant trials, experiments and performance testing and implement findings into standard operations.
  • Maintain and update process documentation, including PFDs, material/energy balances and SOPs.
  • Develop tools and dashboards to monitor key process metrics and provide actionable insights.
  • Ensure compliance with environmental, health and safety regulations in daily operations.
  • Collaborate with Environmental teams on reporting and permitting efforts.
  • Provide engineering support during plant turnarounds, shutdowns and startup operations.
  • Provide input into the capital project pipeline and assist with long-term budget forecasting.

KEY SKILLS & COMPETENCIES:

  • Strong analytical, troubleshooting and critical thinking skills.
  • Ability to lead and influence operational teams with a hands-on, floor-level approach.
  • Continuous improvement mindset with experience implementing Lean or Six Sigma methodologies.
  • Strong verbal and written communication skills across organizational levels.
  • Ability to translate technical improvements into measurable financial results.
  • Competency in coaching and developing operations personnel on technical concepts.

BASIC QUALIFICATIONS:

  • Bachelor of Science (BS) in Chemical Engineering or a closely related field.
  • At least 7 years of relevant experience in chemical or petrochemical manufacturing.
  • Proficiency with process simulation tools (e.g., Aspen Plus, HYSYS).
  • Strong computer skills, including Excel and data visualization platforms (e.g., Power BI).
  • Working knowledge of regulatory compliance and environmental standards.

PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS:

  • In-depth knowledge of continuous chemical production systems.
  • Hands-on experience with PSM programs and regulatory audits.
  • Experience in leading or supporting capital project development and execution.
