Position Overview:

WFMZ is seeking an experienced TV Producer to join our newsroom. The ideal candidate will be a creative, organized, and highly motivated individual who can work in a fast-paced environment, manage multiple projects simultaneously, and produce compelling and engaging newscasts. As a Producer, you will be responsible for overseeing the content and flow of our live newscasts, ensuring all stories are delivered accurately and in an engaging manner, and helping the team achieve high-quality productions on tight deadlines.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Collaborate with the Executive Producer, and reporters to develop, research, and organize newscast content.
  • Write clear, concise scripts that are accurate and easy to understand for a broad audience.
  • Coordinate live shots, video feeds, and other content to ensure seamless execution during newscasts.
  • Ensure that all stories and segments meet WFMZ’s editorial standards and are timely and engaging.
  • Communicate effectively with anchors, reporters, photographers, and other newsroom staff during newscast preparation.
  • Monitor breaking news and be ready to adapt coverage quickly as the situation evolves.
  • Manage production schedules and make real-time decisions on story placements and timing.
  • Assist with special reports and live events as needed.
  • Provide guidance and support to production assistants and other staff members during live broadcasts.
  • Stay updated on news trends and incorporate innovative techniques to improve the newscast experience.

Qualifications:

  • Bachelor's degree in Journalism, Communications, or related field (or equivalent experience).
  • 1-3 years of television production experience, preferably in a live newsroom environment.
  • Excellent writing, editing, and communication skills.
  • Strong understanding of broadcast journalism principles and ethics.
  • Ability to work under pressure and meet tight deadlines in a fast-paced environment.
  • Strong teamwork and leadership skills.
  • Flexibility and willingness to work mornings, weekends, and holidays as needed.
  • Proficiency with newsroom automation systems, video editing software, and other production tools is a plus.
